Far-Right Former Congressman J.A. Kast Voted In as Chile New Head of State.
After a definitive second-round vote, ultra-conservative figure José Antonio Kast has secured the presidency in Chile.
A Resounding Win
After more than 99% of polling stations reporting, Kast secured 58.17% of the vote, defeating leftist candidate Jeannette Jara, who obtained 41.83%.
This represents Kast's third attempt at the presidency, having in the past been beaten by the incumbent president, Gabriel Boric, in the 2021 second round.
Platform Built On Law and Order and Immigration
Noted for his staunch socially conservative views and praise for the rule of former leader Augusto Pinochet, Kast's campaign was mostly focused on promises to tackle increasing insecurity and drastically curb migration.
