Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
