Operations Recommence at Edinburgh Airport In the Wake of Significant Control Tower IT Issue

A technical fault at Edinburgh's ATC meant all flights could arrive or depart from the airport.

Air travel have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport after a significant air traffic control outage grounded all flights.

All incoming and outgoing flights were halted because of an systems problem that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Several flyers reported being stuck in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Continued Disruption

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

That said, significant disruption are anticipated to affect schedules. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with many others subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had previously estimated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," officials reiterated.

Root of the Disruption

Officials linked the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Flyers should still plan to verify the schedule of their flight before heading to the hub as residual delays are cleared.
