The English golfer Clinches Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in Thrilling Play-Off Showdown Versus Tommy Fleetwood
The 30-year-old golfer demonstrated exceptional nerve to secure the prestigious Abu Dhabi title on the final day, beating Tommy Fleetwood in a tense play-off after a rollercoaster final round of play.
The Englishman nailed a crucial birdie from just over eight feet to clinch the victory, echoing his only previous Rolex Series success at the 2020 Scottish Open, which was also a playoff victory over Fleetwood.
Sunday's Play Excitement
Rai started the final round with a one-shot advantage over countryman Tommy Fleetwood and Denmark’s Højgaard. He ended up with a overall score of twenty-under after a up-and-down, 67 final round that included seven birdies and two bogeys.
The challenger edged a stroke clear with two holes remaining after a birdie putt on the sixteenth, but his rival pulled level again on the seventeenth and then missed a 10-foot birdie attempt to claim victory on the last hole.
Play-Off Decider
That led to a playoff at the Yas Links course where the eventual winner prevailed to claim the title and $1.5m (£1.13m) in prize money.

The Northern Irish star left himself just too much to do, finishing a stroke behind in a tie for third with the Dane, after a stunning 10-under closing round of ten-under. It was McIlroy’s best-ever score on the European Tour, comprising eight birdies and an eagle.
The Danish golfer carded six birdie putts of his as well, but his chances of leading the leaderboard were dented by a bogey on the 12th. England’s Richard Mansell hit an excellent final-round 63 to end up in a tie for fifth place with Australian Hillier.
