The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Silent Hill and Among Us Gameplay
The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has captured attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.
"It's a distinctive game where a girl containing several personalities within her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.
Entering a Fractured Consciousness
In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of teenage years. Within her exist four distinct souls, all possessing unique anxieties and drives. These souls can take over at will, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly.
Based on revealed footage, much of the action takes place within a creepy medical facility, while other scenes depict the main character exploring a abandoned chapel.
A World of Personal Dread
"What are you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to others can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game explores that idea — fears that are unique to each person."
The core gameplay loop revolves around managing the persona that emerges at any given time. However, these identities will change against your will during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the girl one after another. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.
Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Decision
Initially, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by nurses all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the lobby have enormous flowers where their necks should be. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.
Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four souls asserts that the body is rightfully them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is real."
Once players have deduced a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. But, because each soul can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.
"Maybe you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The last one standing could be a fake. Either way, your decisions are irreversible."
UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
